An Effective Mary Kay Sales and Recruiting Funnel

There are a few things that every Mary Kay consultant ought to know.  It is not enough to just know how to conduct skin care classes, facials and product knowledge.

As a business owner, you must have a clear sales funnel that constantly sends you customers and team members on an auto pilot.

Building a Mary Kay business with hundreds or thousands of customers and team members is the most difficult task for most consultants and directors.

Unfortunately most consultants and directors do not have a sales and recruiting process.

Instead, they talk everyone into buying or joining the business or sends them to their Mary Kay website to learn more about the product and the business.

Is Your Mary Kay Business Sales Funnel a Pink Cadillac Or a Beat Up Old Clunker?

While your Mary Kay website is a good site for your existing customers to buy products 24/7, it is NOT designed to serve as a marketing sales funnel.

The beginning of your struggle in Mary Kay is lack of proper marketing training.  Your business died the day you were told that all you needed to do is sell to family and friends, get 5 cards a day (warm chatter) and spam your social media friends with your Mary Kay website link.

This type of marketing produces very minimal results.  It may work for a few people but that is really an exception.  As an entrepreneur you want to do more than family and friends or cold marketing.

Placing your company website links all over social media sites like Facebook is a ridiculous way to market.  There is a difference between social media marketing and social media spamming.

Today I want to show you an alternative way to market.   And if you are one that likes cold marketing and 5 cards a day warm chatter type of marketing, then you will now have an an option if the warm chatter marketing fails you.

Guess what? It really does not hurt to look into something else if what you are doing is failing you. Trust me, the pain of change is much far less than the pain of remaining stuck!

An Effective Mary Kay Marketing Funnel

We are now living in the digital age where prospects no longer drive straight down the street to you house or pick up the phone and call a company number directly.  In today’s marketing process, people search for products, services and other information online.

There are a number of stages a prospect has to go through before buying products or joining your Mary Kay business.  Sometimes prospects could go  silent for months before they decide to buy or sign up with any home based business.

Now, I am not talking about people who go on search for Mary Kay upfront.  Those people are usually directed to the company’s main site and the company has a referral system in place based on zip codes.

The rest of the people would searching for general information about skin care and color cosmetics. Then there are thousands and thousands of women and men searching for home based business.

These people have not decided what business they want to join Mary Kay, Avon, Amway, etc.  They make up their mind what company to join and who to join with after they do their own research online and this is where an effective Mary Kay marketing funnel comes into play.

If you have a good sales and recruiting marketing funnel in place, you will attract people like a magnet.  You can customize your Mary Kay marketing funnel based on your prospects needs.

So, how can you create a good Mary Kay marketing funnel online?  Your Mary Kay sales marketing funnel must comprise the following:

1.  Blog Visitors – Awareness Stage

At this stage, your Mary Kay potential leads learn about your personal brand.  They can learn about you from search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing etc.

They also may come across your personal brand from social media or referral from others.   At this stage your prospects are just becoming aware of you and what you do.

I cannot stress enough how important it is from the get-go that your messaging be consistent across all channels.  By that I mean your message has to be consistent in your your blogs, social media platforms, and every other prospect engagement touch point.

2. Engagement – The Interest Stage

In the interest stage, your prospects have already learned about your brand whether by social media, search engine results or word-of-mouth and your brand message has piqued their interest.

You have done a good job in creating a good first impression.  Their interest from your brand messaging makes them move on to the next stage in your Mary Kay marketing funnel.

Most important thing to remember at this stage is that your blog has to be optimized so that your prospects can easily find the information they need about you and your business with ease.

Make sure you have interesting and relevant content that resonates with your prospects.  To generate good quality leads, your blog must contain valuable information that educate your target market.

 3.  Call to Action – The Consideration Stage

At the consideration stage, your prospects have already shown interest and opted into your sign up form to receive more information from you. At this stage, they may even mention you on social media sites like Facebook or Twitter.

The consideration stage is a crucial part of your Mary Kay marketing funnel.  At this stage, the leads that you have worked hard to generate are now considering you as someone they would love to buy from or do business with.

Now is when you have to make sure your marketing A Game is in place.  You have a system in place to guide the lead through the funnel so  they stay interested and engaged.

This is the stage where you need to show them why they should consider you over all others. If they signed up for more information, make sure to send them relevant information.

You do have to avoid overdoing it by sending them daily emails.  Emailing your leads everyday will not do the trick.  People need personal connection.  Your Mary Kay business will thrive when you understand relationship marketing.

Once you understand your prospects needs, you will begin to connect with them on a more personal level and you will not be focusing on your bottom line.  The key to a successful Mary Kay business is to establish a trusting relationship with your prospects/leads.

Some of this can be automated.  For example when you send them an email, use an email marketing system that allows you to personalize the emails they receive.

Your goal at this stage should be to indirectly push them to the edge and not over the edge.  Please do not confuse this with making sales offers.

I am referring to you offering them something that leads them to taking action that suggest an intent to to buy or join your team.

You can do this by having a persuasive call to action that eventually leads to a sale or a new sign up which brings us to the next stage.

4.  The Interaction – Intent Stage

At this stage your lead has shown you that they very likely have a clear intent to buy products from you or to sign up with you.  This is the stage you want to pull out your tool belt of data about your new prospect’s journey to complete the sales or recruiting process.

Basically this is where you convert them to a buyer or a team member.   You have laid the ground work, and now it is time for the building to go up.  This is the stage where you establish a real human connection with your leads.

While virtual connection works just fine, adding that human touch will truly humanize your brand.  A real human connection will deepen and nurture your relationship with your prospects.

People join people not companies.  This is why it is very important to make sure you have a way to connect with your leads or prospects.

5.  The Action Or Conversion Stage

Can someone say drum roll, please!?  Finally, you get to close the deal at this stage.  You now have a new customer or a new team member.  Your Mary Kay sales funnel has finally paid off.

Here is the good news, the entire sales funnel can be automated so you won’t have to do this with each new customer or team member.  That is the whole idea of a sales funnel.

You set it up once and it works for you over and over even when you are in sleeping or at work.

Important:  Just because you now have a new customer or team member, it is not over.  You have to work on your retention skills. You cannot leave your new customer or team member high and dry

In other words, give your new team member or customer the experience you would want someone to give you.  Yes, I know this sounds like a cliché but it is what it boils down to.

It is very important that you learn how to keep your customers and team members happy.  You do not want to build a revolving door type of business.

What You Should Know Before Clocking Out Of Your 9-5 Rat Race Grind To Do Mary Kay Full Time

Leave 9 to 5 job and bloggingThe first thing you need to understand is that being your own boss and working your Mary Kay business full time is great.

But, you must work the numbers and make sure they make sense before clocking off your 9 to 5 grind to do Mary Kay full time.  I am talking to you Mary Kay DIQs and new directors.

There is always so much pressure mostly from your upline to go full time.  The idea behind this is that if you work your Mary Kay business full time, you will have more results than working it part time.  Makes sense? Yes and no!

If you are not disciplined and well trained in your marketing strategy, you will be making a huge mistake.  Please don’t confuse your DIQ or director status with the lottery. Many Mary Kay DIQs and new sales directors make this mistake.  They expect to make a quick shift from part time to full time and Ka-ching…Ka-ching! Instant cash machine.

Achieving the Mary Kay director level is definitely not a get rich quick overnight success . If this is your mentality, you’ll end up frustrated, broke, and possibly even embarrassed.

Building a profitable, successful Mary Kay sustainable team or unit  takes time.  Do not fool yourself with one or two months good commission check.  As a DIQ or a new director, I would recommend you keep building until you are making at least over $5,00 plus a month consistently for at least 12 months.

When you do this, you will still continue to build your business part time for another year, save all your commission checks from Mary Kay, use your customer sales profit and your J.O.B. pay to cover your regular household expenses and Mary Kay related costs.

When you have a good chunk of money saved that can last you another year if you did not make a dime, then you probably should consider kissing your day job good bye.

If you pressure yourself or allow others to pressure you to quit your job before building a stable foundation, you will be making a drastic gamble that could ruin your family forever.

As much as you may hate your job and or your boss, I would rather you hang around for at least another 12 months. It is actually fun to show up for work driving a Pink Cadillac. At least it was fun for me!

fire your bossI know it’s really hard for most DIQs and new directors to accept this kind of mindset because there are directors and even nationals out there with  marketing memos telling you how much money they make and how easy it is, using words like “100% guaranteed” if you work MK full time you can have a flashy lifestyle too.

But most honest top directors and nationals that you will work with or talk to will admit that they too had a learning curve and some got it going, then went back to zero, and had to start over. Others will tell you that they started out slow, saw money trickling in, and built upon it.

A home based business requires considerably less time and money to start and manage than even a small offline venture, and you’ll probably see results a lot faster.

Getting into real profit and financial freedom with Mary Kay business is probably not going to be an overnight event just because you are in DIQ or have a new Unit number. Do not allow yourself to get caught up unprepared like most people do!

Because of the fact that there are no guarantees, you’ll want a safety net to fall back on. Keep your day job until you begin seeing really good profits and have some funds set up to sustain you while you learn to eke out a living from your Mary Kay business.

There’s no reason to find this discouraging. If it was really just a matter of plugging in and getting instantly rich, everyone would be doing it and there would be nobody left to bag your groceries or punch your ticket at the movie theater.

You simply need to understand that you might not see any returns on your efforts in 30 days. So, you either need to have plenty of money saved before clocking out of your 9-5 grind and handing a pink slip to your boss, or you need to accept the fact that you’ll be working two jobs for a few months – your regular j-o-b and your Mary Kay business.

You also have to consider that when you give up a corporate salary, you may also be giving up benefits like health, dental, etc.  Consider all those facts and make sure you have enough saved to cover all that.If you’re married to a spouse who has insurance coverage, this may be a non-issue – but if not, work out your benefit plan ahead of time.

The best approach is for you to think ahead and set it up right from the beginning. What’s that saying? If you fail to plan, you plan to fail! That fits in well with all of you DIQs, new and struggling directors.

Success Action: As a business owner, your success takes action and not just any action but a focused action. No matter the challenges, failures, or the ups and downs and the many times you have heard the word no, you should never give up on your dream.If you are emotionally invested in the outcome of your Mary Kay business success, you will not stop until you accomplish your goals.

Success Mentorship: Your Mary Kay business success will only be as effective as the marketing strategies you apply and the person mentoring you to success. On the other hand your business partners or your team members will always be a reflection of you as a their leader.

How Blogging Works For Mary Kay Consultants and Directors

Mary Kay Blogging For SuccessFor those of you who do not keep up with online stuff, let me try to explain all the hype about making money online blogging and how you can apply it in your Mary Kay business.

You probably have heard or even seen in the news how many stay at home moms are making millions from their blogs.  Today I will show you how you can dive into the blogging world and create a May Kay success story too.

Please pay attention here because the Mary Kay blogging knowledge bomb I am about to share with you could completely change your business and make you lots of money in the long run.  You will also help countless women make tons of money and that my friend is what enriching women’s lives is all about.

If there is one thing I have learned since starting this blog, it is that a lot of my readers are very interested in learning new marketing techniques for their Mary Kay business.  The idea of online marketing is attractive to a lot of people but most of them have no idea on how to get started and get things on gear.

There is also the concern about “Mary Kay does not allow me to have a website.”  I have addressed that concern on another blog post so I will not get into a lot of details about that here. However, I will once again attempt to debunk that lie.

Mary Kay Inc. does NOT allow to put up websites or blogs about Mary Kay business opportunity or to sell products outside of the company generic or replicated website that they give you www.marykay.com/yournamexyz.  If you are a top director or National Sales Director, then those rules are kind of bent but that is a blog post for another day.

Mary Kay Inc. like any other company are well within their rights to put up these policies and guidelines in place.  They have to protect their name and control their own marketing.  They cannot have over 2 million consultants all blogging and creating Mary Kay websites with their own twist about the products or the business.

So, to take control of the message, they give everyone the same website.  They also give you advertising and social media marketing guidelines including sometimes including ads scripts or samples.

This is not unique to Mary Kay, all direct sales marketing companies do the same.  So, get over it and fall in line with the rules or start your own company where you make the rules.

Now, what Mary Kay Inc. or any other company CANNOT do is stop you from creating your own personal website or blog that is not set up to promote their business opportunity or sell products.

Why in the world would you even want to recreate a Mary Kay website when they already gave you one?  Make no sense yes? Right!  Your own personal brand is “You Incorporated” and NOT Mary Kay Incorporated.

Bear in mind that anything I am showing you to do has everything to do with your creating a personal brand that eventually help grow your Mary Kay business on the back end.  If this makes no sense, then read my blog post about Debunking The Mary Kay Advertising Misconception.

Ok, now that I have once again cut through that misconception, let’s get back on topic.   Blogging is a technique that a lot of direct sales marketers are using to recruit thousands of people into their business.

Blogging for certain topics can put you up in the top search results of Google and other search engines.  You just have to know the tricks to getting Google to connect you with thousands of women wanting to start a home business.

Now, before you start jumping up and down with joy about the thousands of people you are going to recruit, let me point out that there are a few things you must have in place.

See, I know a lot of you already have those free blogs you get from WordPress or Blogger.  I have received so many emails with people telling me they already have blogs but they are still not connecting with the right prospects.

So, if you are thinking of using the free Blogger.com, WordPress.com or Vista to create some free website, don’t waste your time.  It won’t work!!!  I don’t care how good or flashy it looks.  Bottom line is you will make zero money from it.  These blogging platforms are good for fun or hobby blogging.

Here is a little nifty trick that works and you should start immediately but it does cost some money $15 or less a year.  For all of you broke Mary Kay Consultants and Directors out there, this is not for you.  If you cannot afford $15 a year, it is time to exit this blog.

I honestly do not want to hear you bitching about being broke.  I have no interest in working with anyone who call themselves an entrepreneur and cannot afford $15 a year.  Alright, now that the broke folks have exited let’s get back to it.

Go to www.domainforsuccess.com and buy a domain name for $14.99 a year.  At least that is how much the domain name cost at the writing of this blog post.  Do NOT buy a domain name that has Mary Kay in it.  You cannot do that.

DomainForSuccessMary Kay is a trade mark of Mary Kay Inc.  For those of you that want to be sure you are on the right site, the above is a screenshot with arrows showing you how to buy a domain name.  You can click on the image or link to go directly to the domain site.

You can register your domain name for one year or two years or more.  I usually recommend two years but if spending an extra $15 is too much, then go for one year and set it to renew yearly.

The key to a good domain is making sure it is short, easy to remember and one that makes sense.  Once you are done with your domain registration and you have selected a good domain for example yourname.com it is time to get down to business.

Now, once you have your domain name registered, you have two options to get your site up and running.  You can join our Pink Cadillac Academy Member Only Online Training and Coaching Program where we teach you how to get it done yourself in less than a week. Our blogging training is already customized to a Mary Kay type of business.

However, you will still need the marketing training.  It is one thing to know how to build a website, it is another to know how to market online or blog for a business like Mary Kay the right way.  If your marketing skills sucks, you could end up with a nice looking blog but make zero money.

How To Get Out Of The Mary Kay Red Jacket Jail

Are You Ready To Get Out Of The Mary Kay Red Jacket Jail?  Time To Get Unstuck!

Red Jacket TrackingI bet you did not know there is such a thing as “Mary Kay Red Jacket Jail” did you?  Maybe it is because that is what your director has been promoting at the Monday night meetings every week. Or maybe it is because the ladies in red look really good that all you can see in your Mary Kay future is red.

You know I was thinking a few days ago about some of the most important advise I got from my Mary Kay National Sales director in my early days in the business. The best thing she said to me was to get in red and not to get stuck there.

Not getting stuck in the red jacket position is very important. We have seen so many consultants over the years just get stuck in that position and to be quite honest they appear to be comfortable.  In fact there are consultants who are constantly in and out of the red jacket.  Their entire focus is to have 3 active team members so they stay in red and they think that is cute.

Well, that makes no sense is you ask me!  While you may look cute in that red jacket bottom line is you are broke!  Not only are you financially broke but focusing on staying in red shows you are also mentally broke.

While the Mary Kay Red Jacket is just a uniform you wear after achieving a particular level, your vision should be big. You and your team of 3 or 4 will soon perish if you have no bigger vision than Red Jacket.  I did not say that the Bible does – “Where there is no vision people perish.”

Reading emails or hearing consultants going red jacket crazy right before seminar is the most ridiculous thing I have seen from a business point of view.  Your mind get all caught up in small thinking.  All you can see is red and you are so blinded from thinking as an entrepreneur.

Red jacket level will not sustain your family financially. It will make you look good at seminar when you are cheering and clapping for all the directors and the nationals who are making big bucks. It will make you look good when you stand up for red jacket recognition but it will pay zero bills.

So, what should you do?  Well, you can make your mind today to not focus on red and put your sight on bigger thing by thinking as a true entrepreneur.

On the other hand you can ignore what you are reading here, be pig headed about everything and spend the next few months or years stuck in “The Mary Kay Red Jacket Jail.”

If you are stuck in this position and you really want out, I suggest you take some times to re-evaluate your business.  Revisit your reason WHY.

Why did you join Mary Kay?  Was your goal to be a red jacket?  Did you want to be financially free?  What do you need to do in your business to achieve your dream?  Should you continue to do the same thing or should you start doing things differently?  What does a red jacket mean to you and your family?

These questions are great circuit breakers for anyone stuck in red or anyone who have lost their 20/20 vision and all they can see is 3 active people.  Stop focusing on dwarf goals and go for BIG!

Focus on building a strong customer base and becoming a great Mary Kay leader.  Build a strong foundation for your business and you will be a strong Mary Kay Sales Director.  You will no longer focus on minimum production.

There are a lot of directors who put focus on hitting production each month.  As long as they make production to stay in the suit, they are good.  This type of mentality does not just creep in once they are directors.  It is a mentality they developed earlier on in their career by focusing on dwarf goals.

They say you can get a person out of ghetto but you cannot take the ghetto mentality out of them.  This is why you see folks win millions of dollars in lotto and they end up losing it all in a few years.

Let the red jacket level be just a level you are passing by.  When you take out to go on a trip, you pass through many things but your focus is always your destination.  Your excitement for the trip is not the fact that you will stop over by McDonald for a happy meal, it is your destination.

If you get those two mixed up you will end up with a few fries with no happy meal.  So, get your business priorities right, stop the code red hype and focus on real goals that your family can rally behind.

So, next time you tell me you are just trying to not fall out of your red jacket, I will honestly think you are a few cards short of a full deck!

If you are stuck in the red jacket jail for over a year, it is time to get unstuck.  Is it that hard to find 24 – 30 good quality entrepreneurs?  Or is it easier to be in your red jacket comfort zone?

Maybe if you stop bothering folks who are not interested in building a business, stop the warm charter, stop recruiting babies and focus on working with those who are hungry for success, you will get out of that jail.

I know this sort of goes against what you have been doing.  Well, that is my whole point.  You need to break this cycle of in and out of red jacket.  Doing the same thing over and over is not going to give you different results.

See if you have a big vision, it will pull you towards focusing on the right things.  Your vision has to be bigger than you and it should involve more than 3 people on your team.

If you make a decision today to upgrade your knowledge, upgrade your marketing skills, and set your priorities right, then you will no longer focus on just the micro goals.

Micro goals or short term goals will just be one of those signs you see a long the way that let you know you are getting closer to your destination.  Does this conflict the idea of achieving small goal before hitting the big one?

No! It does not, you just need to enlarge your thinking and understand what each level mean for you.  Do you want to be a red jacket and get stuck there or do you want to be a successful Mary Kay Sales Director or National?

Anybody can recruit 3 or 4 people and be a red jacket or Star Recruiter but you must also have a crystal clear success road map of how you are going to achieve financial freedom and genuinely help other women along the way.

So, there you go stop the red jacket madness.  Your red jacket addiction is keeping you stuck and it is ruining your business life. If your focus is matching across seminar stage as a red jacket, get your acts together.

Start focusing on people’s pain instead of your lame red jacket or unit support twist.  If you can finally put your focus on helping people solve their financial pain, they will be jumping on to do business with you credit card on hand ready to sign up.

Here is a question I get asked over and over.  I just got over the phone with a consultant asking the same question. So, I have decided it is time to answer this on my blog.

Why Your Mary Kay Online Ads and Clicks Are Not Converting

“I need some help with social media marketing.  I do a lot of posting on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn and I get a lot of clicks.  I also use paid Google and Facebook ads. Unfortunately my clicks are not converting into sales or team members.”

Well, just because you are placing ads on Facebook or doing Google ads and getting clicks does not mean a squat.  Why do I say this?  Simply because getting clicks does not translate to quality.

You can spend thousands of dollars putting up Facebook and Google Ads or spend eternity posting your Mary Kay links on Facebook.  You can even feature the most beautiful models, the MK Pink Cadillac and the Mary Kay top Nationals on your ads and still get nothing or minimal conversion.

You can get millions of clicks on these ads or postings but you do NOT want to do that.  Why?  Because your most famous Mary Kay celebrities a.k.a. top directors or nationals have absolutely nothing to do with your target demographic.

Some of you might need just a little more revelation to understand why this is the case.  This is because some of you have been programmed to think that posting pictures and links to videos or sites of your Mary Kay upline is the way to market.

I have even seen a lot of Facebook and Twitter spamming about certain TV celebrities who have used Mary Kay.

If you want your Facebook ads to immediately start converting, to recruits or customers depending on who your ad is targeting, then you need to stop thinking like a desperate consultant or director and start thinking like your prospects.  Is this too much to ask?

When putting up these Facebook or Google campaigns you must carefully choose your keywords and think like a Mary Kay prospect who is searching for what you have to offer.  The truth is, all Facebook Ads are not created equal!

There are ads that target people who are ready and willing to buy products from you or ads that target women who are ready to join your business.

On the other hand, there are ads which are directed to people who are just slightly interested.  They will probably click on the ad for curiosity or just because they see a good looking model or their favorite TV celebrity.

This works the same for those using Google Ads.  All keywords are not created equal. There are keywords that target buyers and there are keywords that target broad searchers.  Are you getting confused on what in the world I am talking about?

This is not rocket science.  What I am trying to point out here is how you target your prospects.  For example, there is a difference between someone searching “Mary Kay Cosmetics” and another one searching “How to make money at home selling Mary Kay.”

The first one will get you thousands of clicks with very minimal or zero conversion while the second one will get fewer clicks with a very high conversion rate.

Someone typing the second phrase a.k.a. long tail keyword, already know what they want and they are ready to sign up as consultants.

What you need to understand here is that the key to making money selling Mary Kay or recruiting more people into your Mary Kay team, is not convincing people to buy or join.

It is knowing how to find women and men who already want to buy what you have, or women who are ready to start a home based business.

So, if you have been busy slaving your life away posting non converting ads on Facebook or Google there you have it.  But before you start jumping up and down there are three things you must make sure you understand:

1.  Understand that using the right keywords will help you target the right demographic.

2.  Understand that Mary Kay Inc. has rules and policies.  They have guidelines that you have to follow if you want to do online advertising.

You must learn the different between Mary Kay advertising and advertising for your own personal brand.  Those two are separate.  You want to focus on the second.

3.  Make sure you have a “slammin'” landing page to send all your prospects to. It could be a professional blog or a one page squeeze page.  Do NOT send traffic to a company generic website or a poorly designed web page.

In all three cases above, you need to get in the head of your prospect or customer and start thinking like them.  Figure out the type of person that is most likely to sign up to join Mary Kay business or to buy Mary Kay products.

What would they be searching for online?   What pain are they experiencing and how does your Mary Kay business help relieve their pain?  What will make them want to sign up with you specifically?

To get high conversion rate you need to focus on the quality of your traffic and the quality of the landing page you are sending that traffic to.  Obviously, I do not know where you are right now in your Mary Kay business.

But if you want to improve your sales and team building, then you will need to step into the 21st century marketing techniques and utilize the internet marketing much better.

Brutal Honest Over The Top No sugar Coating – Tone It Down A Notch!

Yep you read it right,someone want me to tone it down a notch.   Today I got “called out!”  Well kind of.  I received an email from a Mary Kay Sales Director who shall remain unnamed. Mary Kay HonestySo she says she loves reading my blog but she think some of my posts are way over the top in the rank of being harsh.  She says Mary Kay women are not used to this type of “brutal honesty” so I should tone it down a notch. I have actually received a few emails since I started this blog.  Some expressing support and excitement that they found this site, some expressing disagreement and there was one anonymous angry consultant or director.  You always have to wonder about those anonymous folks online.  So, what was the director’s beef? On a few of my blog posts I have used according to her “not so good language” and she wanted to let me know in case I wasn’t aware. I am sure you have seen some phrases on this site like, “Don’t waste my time, Feel free to exit my site, bitching around, I have no time for nonsense, Morons and a few more.” She think I am coming across as tough and this can scare people off. So, why do I sometimes write blog posts that are almost guaranteed to piss off some people?  Well, my answer.  Good!  That is my intention when I write some of my blog posts.  Some consultants and directors need someone to “Scare them off”. All kidding aside, my intention is to make you look really hard at your business and make some hard choices.  Sooner or later as an entrepreneur, you will have to make those choices.  Having your cake and eating it too is not an option! First and foremost, I write what I honestly feel.  My posts are from my own personal experience, people who I work with and those who email me.  If any other person reading my blog  is too fragile and get hurt so easily, then yes, this is not a place for them. In business you have to put on your big girls pants and develop a thick skin.  This blog is not for people going through the Mary Kay emotional cycles.  It is for the strong in heart.  People who appreciate someone telling them the truth and not manipulating them. Do I want you to sign up for my training program?  You bet! Mary Kay Recruiting Gone Wrong!But do I want to work with babies?  Heck No!  The reason I started this blog is to tell you the truth even if it mean’s losing you. Baby sitting adults will suck the life out of you – drains every once of energy.  Been there done that and it was not fun!! It make you want to scream, smash your computer and pull out your hair!  I know some of you can relate. While you do not want to offend people, never be afraid to speak the truth.  I guess you just have to sandwich a hard truth with some praise as Mary Kay Ash used to teach. Now, I cannot say I have been good at following this rule at all times.  So, yes am guilty of going on and on with some of my rants. I don’t claim to be a smart person.  In fact from my writing you can see that my grammar is not the best.  But, I have been smart enough to master good business skill sets. I can start any business and thrive because I have strategically developed a system that allow me to connect with my target market. Liz Kimeria Training ProgramWay back in 2008 if you can remember that year, I received an email from the person who first introduced me to online marketing.  I must say that this is the email that changed everything I thought I knew about recruiting or sponsoring people into any direct sales marketing.

I though the 3 foot rule, family and friends, and the warm chatter thing  was all I needed.  Had it narrowed down to a science yes? No!  When this email showed up in my inbox, I knew  there was a better way to recruit people.

This email was true back then and it is just as relevant today. I hope after reading this email you will re-evaluate your team building recruiting process.  I personally dived into it and payed a lot of money to learn the right team building skills.  Looking back I can tell you it was worth every penny.  I did not just learn team building skills but a whole lot more.  So here is the mail.

Ps:  The original email was about a man named Frank.  I made a few changes to replace the character Frank.  So, the new character is Freda.  Replace her and put your own name.  Is this how people view you when you share your Mary Kay business opportunity?  Ok, here we go…

  Look At This Idiot: Yep Freda Puked On Me!!

I met a lady yesterday who absolutely loved her business.  That wasn’t the problem.  Here’s where this lady went wrong…

The first thing that came out of her mouth on our initial handshake was, “Hello, …. How would you like to own your own business? I’ve got this amazing opportunity with this amazing product. Get in now and you’ll be set for life!”

Ok. Honestly…Do you think Freda has a good shot at establishing any
type of relationship or any chance at sponsoring distributors using this opening line?

Of course not! It’s ludicrous to think that this could ever work.  I felt like I just got puked on by Freda and her business opportunity.  Yup, Freda puked on me.

And I definitely don’t want to do business with Freda now because I don’t work with people who puke on me…and neither should you!

This is THE #1 WORST POSSIBLE THING you could do if you’re trying
to build a successful Mary Kay business.

This repels your ONLY target market, network marketers, because they could care less about your company.  People do not join products or companies, they join people.  This approach doesn’t work in person so why would anyone in their right mind believe it could on a website?

Yet there are MILLIONS of Mary Kay consultants and directors promoting their Mary Kay business doing EXACTLY what Freda has done here: Puking on people by promoting their business opportunity on the initial handshake.

It’s not about selling the company or pitching your company’s latest hot deal, it’s about selling people working with you and your team.  Make it about something bigger than your  company and  make it about working with you as a leader and a mentor.

Having a deal is just a deal. Deals are everywhere. What is not everywhere is you and what you have to offer as a leader and a mentor. Make it all about you and the successful team you are building and focus on that not pitching your half off MK starter kit  deal.  What’s in it for them?

What can they expect from working with you?  Sell the vision of where you are taking your team/unit.  People want to be a part of a big thing.  They will want to get on board before your train leaves the station.  Why?  Simply because with or without them, your train is leaving.  All aboard – Choo Choo!!

 First law: Build A Relationship With Your Prospect:

No one likes to be approached by a pitch.  Similar to online marking no one likes a link being spammed in their email, or business opportunity links and other products sales junks constantly posted on their Facebook wall. . This is the same when you are talking to someone for the first time.  Think of it as a series of meetings. Make friends first and work on your relationship.

Second law: Work large numbers. You need to recruit more than 3 or 24 people in your business. You need to recruit more than 50 personally if you want real success in your Mary Kay business.  Then duplicate your team building strategies.

To recruit a large number of people you need to sort through large lists of prospects. No one can call 50 of their friends and have all 50 friends join their business. You probably don’t even have 50 friends.

Overcoming The “Not Good Enough” Feeling

Have you ever felt like you are not good enough or am I the only one who have had that feeling?

Get Your Fire BackI am sure you have!  I know the feeling all so well.  When I first ventured into entrepreneurship I wasn’t quite sure I could be good at it. It is human nature to sometimes doubt ourselves.

The really crazy thing is we tell ourselves a little lie, by comparing ourselves with others. We think everyone else out there is doing better than us. The truth is, in most cases they are not.

Comparing what you feel on the inside with other people’s outside appearance is the same as comparing apples to oranges.   Think about that Mary Kay Sales Director or consultant in your unit who’s so good at hosting really smooth skin care classes and business opportunity presentations.

On the other hand, is your nervous self. You think about how nervous you get when you have to do a business presentation or a skin care class. Guess what? That consultant or director you think is doing so good in their presentations might be just as nervous in the inside.   You just can’t tell.

There are lots of great consultants and directors who are great, but they still panic on the inside. Usually you grow over it and get better with time.

Trust me, the more successful you become, the more likely you will be rubbing shoulders with even more successful, skilled and talented people than you and the feeling of inadequate could quickly creep in when you start the comparison all over again. What does this say?

You are just fine the way you are and you do actually measure up.   You just have to stop being harsh on yourself. Keep moving and enjoy the journey. Well, at least that is how I personally look at it to overcome the not good enough creepy feeling and in some kind of backwards way, it make me feel better.

We now live in the age where our lives are an open book on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. Everyone and their grandmother are using these social media sites to showcase their lifestyles.

People post what they want you to see which is always them in their best. Could be a wedding, kids graduation, evening out with a spouse, honeymoon, vacation or just having a good time in the beach.

What we forget is that we only get to see what is highlighted. You never get to see images of their struggles, the sleepless nights, failed attempts and self-doubts.

On the other hand, we spend so much time on these social media sites browsing through our others photos and videos and wishing we were them. Make sense?

So, next time you see a director or a consultant doing so well and you start comparing just remember, you are only seeing the highlights. Some of them would like to be you given what they have going on in the inside.  

Hope this make someone who is going through some creepy not good enough feeling today feel a little better. You are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God.

Can A Mary Kay Consultant Or Director Battle the Gurus in the Game of Internet Marketing?

Many Mar Kay business owners especially consultants and struggling directors wonder whether they can actually get online and expand their business growth on the web.

You may think that in the 21st Century, thousands of consultants and directors  are flocking online daily to seek out their rightful place among Internet marketing giants who have created a virtual empire of passive profits.

But while they may be looking into it, many Mary Kay business owners  are too intimidated to actually do anything to stake their claim.  What do you think is the primary reason?

Truth is, they are scared the company does not allow them to have a website. Really? Not true!  See my post on debunking the old Mary Kay advertising/no personal website lie.

See, some Mary Kay ladies think that if a few consultants and directors are  already successfully marketing online, then there’s no room for them on the net.  I have heard this question so many time.

The idea that if others are doing it then you have no place to participate could not be further from the truth.  This type of thinking is as a result of not understanding how marketing a home based business like Mary Kay online works.

As a result of this misconception, many consultants and even some struggling Mary Kay sales directors put their dreams on the back burner and return to the shackles of a 9-5 daily grind in Corporate America (or elsewhere in the world).

Is it possible for an unknown “Mary Kay Consultant” to break out onto the online marketing scene and become a big hit based on what they know that’s better or different from what they are being taught about marketing?  Of course it is.  I have seen it happen time and time again.

But in order to do this, the consultant has to come onto the marketplace with insurmountable confidence so that her target audience will believe the message that’s being sold.  But do not allow yourself to be intimidated by the seasoned online marketing gurus.

A guru isn’t someone who knows better how to do something.  A guru, in the Internet marketing world, is someone who did it in an original fashion and/or someone who has been earning a living steadily online for a long amount of time and therefore knows his or her “stuff.”

You may be new and unknown but you can learn the ropes of online marketing in the next few months.   If you are able to come online and learn Internet marketing well enough that it allows you to succeed in a short amount of time, then that will make you a guru in your own right.

Many people are, in fact, turned off by the word “guru” and get bored of reading about someone’s expertise.  Fresh is a good thing in the world of Internet marketing, so before you throw in the towel and call it quits, make sure you at least give your Mary Kay dreams a shot at online success,

Remember that enthusiasm boils over, even on a static web page.  So, if you believe in your Mary Kay business potential, take the time to educate yourself on the best way to market online.

When you understand how this works, you will have a new target market.   Your new audience will soak up your attitude and carry the torch for you into the realm of profits and Mary Kay top Pink Cadillac director or National Sales Director.

Dare yourself and get your business started online today.   But, before you get started with any kind of internet marketing business, you have to analyze your own mindset and your Mary goals.  Revisit your reason WHY and see if you still have the fire in your belly.

This will help you see if you have what it takes to be an Mary Kay online entrepreneur from conception to fully-functional success operation.  It’s not enough to say you want to make money or be your own boss selling Mary Kay.  There is more you have to understand about business marketing.

How To Revive A Mary Kay Business That Has Hit Dead End

comitmentLet’s just say you have a Mary Kay business that you really love but looking at everything that has happened in your business in the last few months or years, you know for sure you have reached your dead end.

You see the potential in your Mary Kay business but you just don’t know how to revive it to the positive side where you are making good profit.  To get your business going again, there are 6 factors that will definitely start the process of breathing life into your business:

  1. Having a blog or website with great content that connects with your visitors.
  2. Learning how to drive massive targeted traffic to your website
  3. Learning  how to convert  traffic  into leads
  4. Proper use of Autoresponder/E-mail Marketing
  5. Mastering leads conversion
  6. Leadership and business management skills

These 6 points all tie together and the following is a very simple example of what the first 3 steps looks like

If all you are using to create an online presence is your Mary Kay replicated website, that is the first sign that you are in trouble.

If you do not have a personal website or blog that brands you, then your competitors are going to wipe you out when it comes to business growth.  Why do I say so?

Simply because in the 21st century, the internet has become so huge that most people rely on search engines to find whatever they need.  If your website is a company replicated or generic site, you can count yourself out of luck.

Search engines do not recognize these types of websites.  I will talk about your Mary Kay replicated websites on another post.

So let us briefly look at each of the 6 points above:

1.  Must have a business blog or website.  I prefer to have a blog personally because I find blogs easier to optimize for search engines and they are also interactive. 

There are several benefits of having a blog but I am not going to get into that on this post.  Now, your blog content must speak to your target market.  You cannot be all over. 

If I visit your blog to learn about home business, make up skin care, weight loss, or whatever you are blogging about then that is what I want to see not politics, celebrity gossips or you and your friends in the beach.  Keep the main thing the main thing. 

Address the challenges that your blog’s visitors might be dealing with, then offer them a solution.  Why do you recommend XYZ and what will that do for them?

What makes you stands out from your competitors. This is definitely a wide topic that wraps itself around the power of personal branding.

2.  Massive Targeted Traffic:  For any business to survive, you will need to have massive organic traffic flowing into your site.  These are people visiting your site from search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing, Ask etc. 

You also can drive huge targeted traffic by learning how to effectively market on different social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin etc.

Note I said learn how to effectively market on social media sites.  Posting your business links on your friend’s wall every day is not marketing.  This is actually spamming.

3.  Learning how to convert  traffic into leads: Now that you have all these traffic flowing into your blog, you have good content that is connecting well with your visitors what next?

Well, the answer is simple you want the people visiting your website to convert into leads.  So, you always want to have a way to connect with them.

The best way to do this is to install a simple Opt In Form in your site which you can get from any email marketing provider.

You can see my opt in form on the top right side of this post.  This allows my blog visitors who want to hear more from me or stay connected with me to enter their information.

4.  Email Marketing: Well now that you are generating a lot of good quality leads for your Mary Kay business who are interested in your opportunity or products, then you want to stay connected with them via email. This is made easier by subscribing to an email marketing company that we just talked about on step 3 above.

5. Leads Conversion: Now, at this point you also want to make sure your outgoing messages are connecting with your readers.  Be careful not to become a spammer even though you have their permission to send them email. 

Sending two or three emails daily to people is not a good marketing strategy.  I will even say don’t send them daily emails.

People are already overwhelmed by other things in life.  They are not just sitting around waiting for your email messages to show up daily no matter how good they are.

Your message will eventually get lost and will become valueless.  They will eventually stop reading your emails if you overwhelm them especially if all you are doing is selling a product or a business opportunity and not offering any value in your content.

Continue to provide value and invite them to look at what you recommend as the solution to their problems.  If they provide you with their phone number on the opt in form, that means they are giving you permission to call them.

So, you can follow up with them via phone.  If you offer them good value in your emails, provide answers to their problems, then you will be able to convert a good percentage into buying customers or Mary Kay team members depending on what they opted in for.

6.  Leadership & business management skills: When the first 5 points are done right, you will have a big customer base and a strong team.  The only thing you have to really work on is your leadership and business management skills. 

The last thing you want to happen is put all the energy and the effort in building all these customers and a big team in your Mary Kay business, and still watch your business go downhill because of lack of either leadership skills or business management skills.

School is never out for the pros and we all have to continue working on our own personal development and our leadership skills.

Who Gets The Blame For Your Mary Kay Failures & Who Gets Credit For Your Success?

Liz KimeriaIs blaming others a serious, deadly contagious disease that is spreading so fast in the Mary Kay World?  Why is it always your recruiter or director’s fault?  If they are not working with you, why not find another mentor?

See, in Corporate America when people don’t  perform well at their job, they don’t blame their boss for not getting the job done–well, maybe sometimes they do if the boss sucks.   But really whose loss is it if you do not do your job because you hate your boss?

I am not without fault when it comes to this blame game.  I remember my first few months in Mary Kay, I would blame everybody else but myself.  For months, I had lost touch with my recruiter because she had moved out of State.

My director was out of town and so I though it was my recruiter’s job to be there holding my hands.  It took a lot of growing to get over it and realize I was in charge of my own business.

I know there is someone reading this post struggling in their business and maybe putting the blame on their sponsor, their director, their team, their husband or wife but not looking deep within.

Blaming everyone else but yourself is sometimes the easiest excuse until you run out of people to blame.  If others don’t get total credit for your success, then they should not be blamed for your failure.

The one thing I did not understand when I first got started in Mary Kay is that creating success in the business had to start in my own mind.  As much as you do rely on your Mary Kay Sales Director or sponsor to provide you with the right marketing training, it is also important to realize that they cannot do the job for you.  You alone are responsible for your own business success.

Yes, there are some cases where the director or the sponsor are clueless when it comes to training their teams on how to build a successful home business and all they “sell” is hype at their weekly meetings. But this should never stop you.  You just have to find a way to create a winning marketing strategy for you and your team.

The good thing about your Mary Kay business and others in direct sales marketing is that while you cannot change sponsorship or teams, you can always find another person within your company whose training you can plug into. You can also get someone from outside your company to coach and mentor you to success.

The best way to not deal with a clueless sponsor or director is to actually do a “sponsor shopping” before getting started.  Do some research online and interview them before you sign up.  I am not going to get into the details of how to go about it right now but I will do so on another post.

Is it your fault that you are struggling in your Mary Kay business? 

The answer to this question can be both yes and no.  This is simply because you probably have not been taught how to effectively market your Mary Kay business.  What yo have now is a business that has no target market.

You have been taught that everyone is a prospect and your marketing strategy is based on 3  foot rule.  In network marketing, the Three Foot  Rule simply means that whenever you’re within three feet of someone, you should talk to them about your business or the services you provide.

For some Mary Kay consultants, the idea of approaching anyone within three feet is a daunting one but for others, it is easy.  I am not sure I agree with this three foot rule concept when it comes to marketing unless one is in a networking event but I will leave it for another discussion.

If you are lacking  good marketing training from your sponsor or director, it is not the end of the road.   There are some people in this industry who are very good trainers when it comes to marketing but you have to open up your mind to receive and to put to work what you learn.

Your Mary Kay recruiter or director will train and mentor you to success but they will never build a business for you.   If anyone tells you otherwise before you sign up they are not telling you the truth.  They are more interested in signing you up in the hope that you will figure out the rest later.

If you are struggling in your business, decide today to take action that will definitely help in building a successful Mary Kay business.  You can chose to do something daily that will get you closer to your business goals or you can make a choice to do nothing and keep on complaining and blaming others.   Work on developing your potential, and your marketing skills and you will see a positive shift in your business.

Life is not always the way we would like it to be.  It would be nice to have a top NSD as your sponsor, it would be better if your sponsor taught you how to utilize the internet to build your Mary Kay business, it would be easier if your Mary Kay National Sales Director did all your closings on three way calls each time you had a prospect, it would be better if Mary Kay allowed you to change sponsorship or team without waiting out for a year, it would be easier if someone did all the hard work for you etc.. etc..

If we only continue to fantasize on unrealizable wishes, we will end up being frustrated and most likely calling it quit.  Have you ever wondered why some people are able to create massive success in their direct sales marketing business and others are not?  The difference is in the way they think.  Success starts and continues in our mind.  And who get to control your thinking?

Regardless of your current business situation, you can make a choice to change and no one can take that away from you.  You can do whatever you want to do and become whoever you want to be.  I end this post with one of my favorites quotes…

Mary Kay Director In One Month

Today’s blog is about becoming a director in one month.  Over the years there has been a lot of excitement in the Mary Kay world about consultants completing Mary Kay DIQ in 30 days and promoting to sales director level.

So, today I want to dig deeper into this topic because…. well, I believe it is time to talk about it.

Now, it is the dream of every Mary Kay beauty consultant to become a Mary Kay sales director.  To become a director, the company usually give you up to 4 months to complete the Mary Kay DIQ qualification requirements.  This mean you can complete DIQ as fast as you decide or you can take the entire 4 months.

When it comes to Mary Kay DIQ qualifications and the “One Month Director,” I break it into two groups.  The two DIQ groups I want to talk about are:

1.  DIQ – Seasoned consultants

2.  DIQ – Brand new consultants

The first group is comprised of consultants who have been i Mary Kay for much longer – maybe months or years.  Anyone in this group can submit their DIQ card to the company and once approved, they can complete DIQ in 30 days.

The second group is comprised of brand new Mary Kay consultants who become directors in 30 days from the time they sign up their Mary Kay agreement.

Impressive! Yes? Well,, first you have to give credit where credit is due.  To qualify for DIQ in one month is not easy.  You have to recruit the number of qualifying team members and complete the required production all within 30 days.

This is where my two cents comes in.  I personally do not believe a director or national should push a brand new consultant who just signed up their agreement to become a director in 30 days.

While nothing is wrong in achieving director level in 30 days, I believe a brand new consultants end up missing all the lessons that they should learn as a consultant.

Really a brand new consultant in 30 days have no idea how to share the business opportunity, host skin care classes and facials let alone lead a group of other new people.

As a director, you have your own unit and you are expected to provide them with the necessary Mary Kay training in order for them to be successful in the business.

Now, if you ONLY have been in the business for 30 days, how in the world do you teach someone else how to become successful.  You would have to rely on your Sr. Sales director or your national to provide them with all the training they need.  And how many of you know this does not always work?

Your senior director and national have their own businesses and units to work with.  So there is only too much they can do for you and your new team as much as they would want to help.

If you take a really hard look at your business or your new unit, you most likely do not have a unit of entrepreneurs.  You have family and friends and a bunch of personal users.

Remember all those people you begged to join to help you finish DIQ and they agreed to place a minimum order?  Yes,  the numbers don’t lie.  A few of them could turn out to be good but these are very rare.  You cannot build a business based on this.  You have to do it by the rule not exceptions.

And how many Mary Kay customers do you have in 30 days by the time you become a Mary Kay director?  Probably no more than 24. Same number of people you have now recruited to start their own business.

So, how then do you teach them to build a solid rock customer base in order for them to make money and for you to build a strong unit?

Once again I am not saying it cannot be done but numbers never lie.  Call the company and have them give you statistics of all new consultants who became directors in 30 days from the time they signed their agreement.  See how many of them are still directors today.

I think it is good for a brand new Mary Kay consultant to take at least 3 months to learn the business.  No, you do not need a year to understand how to build a Mary Kay business but I do think a 90 days foundation plan is a good place to start.  This way, you will be well grounded when you decide to go DIQ whether you do it in one month or 4 months.

When you can take a couple of months or so to learn, you will be good at your skin care classes, facials, business opportunity presentations, improved business marketing skills and more important, you will be ready to duplicate the same skills once you have a team or unit. Now, that is just my opinion.

For the second group, I am all for One Month DIQ Qualification as long as you have your Mary Kay marketing skills in place.  These are skills that you apply to add customers and recruit qualified entrepreneurs into your business.  There is no reason to wait for months or years to become a sales director.

If you have been in Mary Kay for six months or more, chances are you are lacking the skills required to build a strong customer base and to recruit others in your Mary Kay business.

There is no other explanation why you are not a director unless you are a lazy procrastinator.  I like to believe my blog readers are not lazy morons.  Honestly in just about everyone I have talked to, it is mainly poor  marketing skills due to lack of proper training.

What you want to do is study your Mary Kay Advanced brochure from cover to cover.  Understand exactly what the DIQ Qualification section requires you to do.  Then develop a plan of action which will be your road map to follow for the next 30 to 90 days.

Now, let me just say if your plan is to go out there and do more of what you did that produced ZERO results, you will be wasting your time and you will end up failing at it miserably.

In order for you to see change, you have to change!  If you need to make more money and help a lot more women this year, then you need to change the focus of your business. Why? Because doing the same thing and expecting different results is the definition of insanity.

If you go out and recruit your entire extended family, you probably will be a director in a month or four but chances are you will lose your directorship/unit soon.

It is all exciting when you are counting 24 active people.  But if you are true to yourself, if you analyze the 24 people then those numbers can quickly be very scaring.  Why?  Reality hits home that you do not have a unit.  You have a team of family and friends.

You cannot beg your way to directorship!  Nobody is interested in helping you or your director.  People are interested in your helping them make money in Mary Kay.  So, my advise is be real with yourself and start all over.  Focus on balancing your business by building both customers and team.

In case you have not seen it, I am giving you access to a system that automates the entire sales and recruiting process for you and as long as you follow the simple instructions in the member area, this will consistently add new customers, and new team members for you on an autopilot.

If you are fed up of spending countless hours and so much money on marketing methods that have kept you stuck , and you are ready to step into DIQ and finish strong, you now have an option to make a change.

If you are sick and tired of being a broke Mary Kay consultant or director, this is your opportunity.  Before you skip out just imagine how your business will change by the end of the year if you Take Action right now.

Take a really hard look at your business and decide what it is that you really want out of it because you will need to make a choice.

You either do what it takes to be successful or you don’t.  There is no middle ground.  You won’t have your cake and eat it too!  The biggest challenge most Mary Kay consultants and directors have to overcome is getting out of their own way and their own self limiting belief systems.
